horsesModerate grazing can improve the health of an ecosystem, while over-grazing can devastate the same area. Finding balance allows us to cherish our landscapes while caring for and living lightly in our watersheds. Keep livestock away from creeks and streams as animal waste can impact the water quality. Animals moving in and out of the creek also destroys creek banks and increases excess sediment in stream flows.

Horses have been a part of the Santa Monica Mountains for over 200 years. They are highly social herd animals that prefer to live in a group – a solitary horse in a corral will become a depressed animal. Make sure to keep at least two horses at any site.
