It is important to track fish populations and work with commercial fishermen, divers and scientists to assess what lives in our local waters and what kind of harvest is sustainable, for both commercial and recreational fishers. The Bay Foundation and other organizations have been a part of this effort.
Commercial Fisheries
Typically at night in the summer, squid boats will line up right along the northern perimeter of the Point Dume State marine Reserve. Most of our commercial fishermen are based out of San Pedro, but some come from Oxnard Ventura and Marina Del Rey.
